Stakeholders Online Briefing: 7th Multi-stakeholder Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals Forum

The “Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the SDGs” (STI Forum) was created by UN Member States as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, reflecting their belief that STI solutions will be central to any meaningful progress toward making the SDGs a reality.
The STI Forum is a unique UN platform for debate, discussion and creation around STI for the SDGs. It attracts global participation from Ministers and other policy makers at all levels, private sector leaders, civil society representatives and the science and technological community.
Seventh Annual STI Forum (2022)
The seventh annual STI Forum will be held from 5 to 6 May 2022. The Forum will be convened by the President of ECOSOC, H.E. Mr. Collen Vixen Kelapile who has appointed two co-chairs - H.E. Mr. Kennedy Godfrey Gastorn, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Tanzania to the United Nations, and H.E. Mr. Sergiy Kyslytsya, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations. As per its mandate, the Forum will be organized by the UN interagency task team on STI for the SDGs (IATT), convened by UN-DESA and UNCTAD, and the 10-Member Group of high-level representatives appointed by the Secretary General.
As in previous years, the theme of the STI Forum will be closely aligned with that of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), to be held from Tuesday, 5 July, to Thursday, 7 July, and from Monday, 11 July, to Friday, 15 July 2022, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council, but have an exclusive focus on the role and contributions of science, technology and innovation.
Accordingly, the theme for the STI Forum 2022 will be: “Science, technology and innovation for building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”.

STAKEHOLDERS ONLINE BRIEFING
The STI Forum, as a multi-stakeholder space, included the participation of stakeholders from a broad range of sectors, including non-governmental organizations, civil society, academic institutions, the scientific community, local and regional governments, the private sector and philanthropic organizations among others.
In this regard, UN DESA, in collaboration with the Co-Chairs of the 7th STI Forum, organized an online briefing to share information with stakeholders about the STI Forum, including opportunities for stakeholder participation and contribution.
The online briefing was held on 1st April 2022, 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM (New York Time/EDT).
