Eradicating poverty in all its forms remains one of humanity’s greatest challenges. Poverty forces individuals to make difficult choices, such as between paying the rent and feeding their children, or between filling a prescription and keeping the heat on in the winter. The multidimensional nature of poverty means that governments need to respond to both its causes and consequences and address the many deprivations faced by those living in poverty.

Global phenomena, including COVID-19, raise questions about the gathering and use of socio-economic data; and how organizations and international bodies can collaborate. The side-event will aim to share best practices and lessons learned on the intersecting topics of domestic and international poverty reduction, ‘restart and recovery’ efforts in the face of COVID-19 and strong, peaceful, and resilient societies in the context of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. This event will seek to start conversations and share best practices around policy responses to poverty reduction, as well as data collection and measurement of poverty, domestically and internationally, through conversations with poverty reduction experts.
