Juan Somavia (Chile) was Director-General of the ILO from March 1999 to September 2012. He has had a long and distinguished career in civil, political and international affairs. His wide experience in all areas of public life – as Ambassador, CEO, policy-maker, and his involvement in social development, business, civil and academic organizations have all helped shape his vision of the need to secure decent work for women and men through productive investments in the real economy. He believes that in many ways the quality of a society is defined by the quality of work available. He has been particularly active in addressing the social dimension of the present financial and economic crisis.

Olga Marta Sanchez Oviedo is a Costa Rican politician and the current Minister of Planning. She was Secretary General of the Citizens' Action Party (PAC for its' Spanish initials). She holds a doctorate in economics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and a Master's in social science from the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (Latin American Social Science College). In addition, she is a licenciate from the University of Costa Rica.

Special Envoy for Climate Change, Poland

Polish civil servant and lawyer. He was the minister of environment in Donald Tusk's cabinet from 2011 to 2013. He previously served as deputy minister of economy between 2005 and 2011. In the years 1993-1995 and 1997-1998 he worked as a lawyer in various national and international law firms and in the department of law and treaties at the Polish ministry of foreign affairs. From 1999 to 2001, Korolec was an advisor to the Government’s Plenipotentiary for Poland’s EU Accession Negotiations. In 2001-2004, he was the Minister’s Counsellor at the Office of the Committee for European Integration. From 2004 to 2005 Korolec worked as a partner at Euroidea consulting company. On 23 November 2005, Korolec was appointed by the Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz as the Undersecretary of State in Ministry of Economy. On 18 November 2011, Korolec was appointed by the President Bronisław Komorowski as the minister of environment in the Second Cabinet of Donald Tusk. In November 2013, he was removed from office, but was named as the government climate envoy.

Dr. Anthony Mothae Maruping holds a BA, a MA, an MBA and a PhD in Economics. He was Pro-Vice-Chancellor at NUL from 1982 to 1986. He was later Governor at CBL (1988-98). From 1998 to 2005 he was Executive Director, MEFMI, Eastern and Southern Africa. From 2006 to 2012 he was Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Lesotho to UNOG, WTO, etc. and from 2009 to 2012, to the Swiss Confederation. Since 2013, he is Commissioner for Economic Affairs, African Union. Has chaired boards, councils and committees in various national, regional and international organizations.

Shamshad Akhter (Ms.), Executive Secretary, ESCAP (delegated by ECLAC, current coordinator of UN regional commissions)., Appointed in December 2013 as USG and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. She also serves as the United Nations Sherpa for the G20. Formerly the Secretary-General's Senior Advisor on Economics and Finance, and Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development at the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, she led the UN-wide coordination of the post-2015 development agenda and related policy and normative work, including supporting work on the Sustainable Financing Strategy. Ms. Akhtar has previously served as Governor of the Central Bank of Pakistan, and recently also as Vice President of the Middle East and North Africa Region of the World Bank. In her capacity as Governor, Ms. Akhtar was also the Chairperson of the Central Bank Board and its affiliates, as well as a Governor of the IMF.

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh

Mr. Md. Shahidul Haque has been serving as Foreign Secretary of the Government of Bangladesh since 2013. He is the Chair-in-office of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) and serves as an Independent Expert to the Committee on the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families (CMW) for the term 2014-2017. He is also a member of the Migration Advisory Board of International Organization for Migration (IOM). From 2001 to 2012, Mr. Haque occupied several senior positions at the IOM. Prior to that, he worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, having served in Missions in London, Bangkok and Geneva. Mr. Haque has an MA in nternational Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. He holds a Master in Social Science and a Bachelor in Social Science with Honors from the University of Dhaka.

UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations

Prior to his current position, Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser assumed the Presidency of the Sixty-Sixth session of the United Nations General Assembly from September 13, 2011 to September 17, 2012.
A veteran diplomat, Mr. Al-Nasser has the rank of Minister, granted by His Highness the Emir of the State of Qatar.
He has contributed to advancing the multilateral agenda in the realms of peace and security, sustainable development and South-South cooperation over a career spanning nearly four decades. For the past 13 years, from 1998 to 2011, Mr. Al-Nasser served as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations. During this period, he played leading roles as Chairman of the General Assembly’s Special Political and Decolonization (Fourth) Committee (2009 to 2010) and as President of the General Assembly High-level Committee on South-South Cooperation (2007 to 2009). He also chaired the Group of 77 and China at the United Nations in New York (2004), guiding action that paved the way for the Second South Summit of the Group, which took place in Doha, Qatar, the following year, and led to the establishment of the South Fund for Development and Humanitarian Affairs, a financing mechanism aimed at assisting the countries of the South in addressing issues such as poverty, hunger and natural disasters.Mr. Al-Nasser represented his country on the United Nations Security Council during the two-year term of Qatar as a non-permanent member (2006 to 2007).

Gigi Francisco is currently the Chair of the International Studies Department of Miriam College in the Philippines, and a member of the Selection Committee of the Yayori Peace Award. She has conducted research on gender, poverty, development and feminist movements.
