The COVID-19 pandemic is exposing complex and deeply entrenched issues at various scales, from community to national, regional and international levels. The gargantuan task of containing the spread of the virus and responding to people’s needs is a sobering reminder of how fragile and closely linked our systems are. We need solutions that take into account this new reality. The climate crisis calls for urgent action, but equally important to ensure that these actions are carefully thought out and accompanied by technical, policy-level and financial support. This event will look at adaptation and resilience one year after the UN Climate Action Summit, highlight the new challenges in the COVID-19 context particularly in LDCs and SIDS, and explore how the world can push for more transformative, inclusive and locally-led climate policy and action in a post-COVID world, in line with the goals of the Group of Friends of Adaptation and Resilience.
