Background
Reversing alarming trends such as sinking deltas, eutrophication or marine pollution depends upon action from a wide range of actors. It needs to involve sectors that are not traditionally engaged in activities to protect or restore coastal and marine environments. The event will discuss barriers and opportunities to instigate action among upstream actors to reduce land-based impacts on downstream environments and explore the contribution of the S2S Platform to assist in the implementation of SDG 14 in this regard. It will discuss the incentives that can bring upstream and downstream stakeholders together, the capacity of existing governance mechanisms to address source-to-sea linkages and how the Platform can best support ongoing processes, initiatives and investments.
