San Marino

Progress on achieving SDG 6

100% of the population has access to a safely managed drinking water and sanitation services and ensures high quality standards through careful monitoring.

Due to geographic or technical reasons, some areas are not served by a foul water drainage system, which is why it is necessary to extend the wastewater collection network throughout the territory in order to improve the quality of watercourses.

San Marino is 100% dependent on foreign water supplies through agreements and conventions with Italy.

The government aims are to reduce consumption and network losses, exploit internal water resources and build up water reserves in the territory.

Since the 2000s, the separation of foul and storm water drainage systems has been implemented, from 2021, the discharge of industrial wastewater into watercourses is prohibited.
