Sustainability check on legislation to strengthen policy coherence for sustainable development
Description of commitment

Introduced in 2023, the Sustainability Check assesses the impact of all new legislation on the 10 priority action fields of the National Plan for Sustainable Development, which are based on the 17 SDGs. The Check is completed by the authors of draft bills and, as part of the legislative documents, submitted to the Government Council for approval. As it is sent to the Parliament and the Council of State, the Check becomes an integral part of the legislative procedure and is accessible to the public as a parliamentary document. In doing so, consideration of SDGs is mainstreamed throughout the entire legislative procedure.
