Renewed call for nominations of candidates to serve as members of the 10-Member Group to support the Technology Facilitation Mechanism (TFM)

New York, 04 February 2021 - The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) has the honor to issue a renewed call for nominations of candidates to serve as members of the 10-Member Group to support the Technology Facilitation Mechanism (TFM).

The Technology Facilitation Mechanism (TFM) was established by the 2030 Agenda, to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through multi-stakeholder collaboration between Member States, civil society, private sector, scientific community, United Nations entities and other stakeholders. The Technology Facilitation Mechanism is composed by the United Nations Interagency Task Team (IATT) on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) for the SDGs, an annual Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the SDGs (STI Forum) and an on-line platform.

Representatives will be appointed for a period of two years, and shall be drawn from civil society, the private sector, and the scientific community. Nominees must have internationally recognized excellence in fields related to science, technology, and innovation for sustainable development, preferably with demonstrated understanding of related international processes. They shall serve in their personal capacity and not as a representative of a Government, corporation or organization.

Nominations may be conveyed through the Permanent Missions, as well as by stakeholders from STI communities, such as academies of science and engineering, universities, research laboratories, members of the UN Inter-Agency Task Team (UN-IATT), members of the current and previous 10-Member groups, as well as eminent scientists and engineers. Nominations already received towards membership of that group and submitted in 2020, will continue to be valid unless rescinded.

The term of the current group of 10 representatives will expire on 05 May 2021 – at the conclusion of the next Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the SDGs (STI Forum).

Nominations can be emailed by 01 March 2021, to Mr. Chaudhry Iqbal at iqbalc@un.org.
