The GCF aims to support and in particular balance (mitigation and adaptation) funding for climate change mitigation and adaptation projects in the following thematic areas: health, food and water security; human and community livelihoods; energy production and access; transport; infrastructure and built environment; ecosystems and ecosystem services; buildings, cities and industry; forests and land use. 

In 2023, several projects were approved by government for implementation between 2024 and 2027, including the Women-Adapt project: Enhancing the adaptive capacity of smallholder farming communities in Poro region to climate change with a focus on vulnerable women and youth.
