Title of commitment: Climate adaptation strategy and action plan Name of submitting Member State or Government: Luxembourg Please indicate whether your commitment is intended to address SDG Progress at a national, regional or global level: National and regional Please outline briefly the commitment(s) made in the areas outlined above : Forestry: adaptation of species to the sites of implantation, the rise in the average annual temperature and the increase in periods of drought; support for actions to preserve forests and improve their health and their resilience; Water: implementation of the river basin district management plan and the flood risk management plan; Energy: intensification of cooperation at regional level, diversification of energy supply and reduction of energy dependency on imports, assessment of the impact of climate change on energy infrastructure to increase the resilience of the system; Agriculture: support for farmers by providing them with the knowledge and tools necessary to adapt their farms; support for the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices; Spatial planning: implementation of nature-based solutions for the greening of towns and villages; Transport: identify critical transport infrastructures; adapt roads by greening, surface permeabilisation or using innovative road surface materials; Crisis management: set up a national system for rapid fire detection and response; continued modernisation and acquisition of new vehicles and specific equipment; making critical infrastructures resilient, adoption of a national resilience strategy; Construction and Housing: put in place the necessary financial mechanisms and technical instruments to increase the resilience of housing, particularly in the face of heat waves; green the urban space, particularly on and around new large buildings; Health: further study the implications of climate change on public health in Luxembourg; fight against invasive species that can impact human health; further promote the measures of the heat wave plan Economy: systematically list data concerning the damage caused by extreme events to better guide future policy choices; take into account the scarcity of natural resources such as water, which can impact the national economy; Society: consider social justice policies in the implementation of climate change adaptation measures; assess the socio-economic impact of climate change; Communication and Outreach: raise public awareness; stimulate self-mobilisation and action; mobilise local knowledge and resources; Regional and international cooperation: continue BeNeLux cooperation, establish regional cooperation between other neighboring countries; participate in exchange networks between local communities.
