CLIMATE & SDG SYNERGY
FIFTH GLOBAL CONFERENCE
Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet
5-6 SEPTEMBER 2024 | RIO DEJANEIRO, BRAZIL
Museum of Tomorrow (Museu do Amanhã)
The Fifth Global Conference on Strengthening Synergies between the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet took place on 5-6 September 2024 at the Museum of Tomorrow (Museu do Amanhã) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Co-convened by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat (UNFCCC), and hosted by the Government of Brazil in conjunction with their G20 presidency, the conference served as a platform for high-level dialogue on fostering integrated approaches to address the interlinked challenges of climate change, environmental degradation, and sustainable development.
The Conference included several roundtables and thematic sessions with expert contributions from Member States, UN agencies, youth, civil society, private sector, and other stakeholders actively engaged in seeking solutions to tackle climate change and the SDGs. Participants engaged in dynamic discussions on advancing synergistic solutions to bridge the financing divide, ensuring equitable and just transitions towards a 1.5-degree pathway, unlocking potential of forests and bioeconomy, sustainable consumption and production, and harnessing the potential of cities as drivers of climate action and resilience. The Conference also featured a dedicated session on the "Roadmap to Mission 1.5 COP Presidencies Troika"; a Troika 'Majlis' focused on transformational adaptation and climate resilience to achieve the global goals.
