    Description
    Description

Building resilience and self-reliance of young women farmers in Minya through the Farmer Field Business Schools. The Farmer Field School for Social & Financial Women Empowerment project is implemented over 12 months to cover 2 harvesting seasons, where by the end of the program not only is the outcome ecologically beneficial, it also encourages self-development among participants who begin to appreciate the autonomy accorded to them through empowerment, where the women acquire Good Agricultural Practices skills. Increased income due to the improvement in harvest and low cost of spending of purchasing fertilizers, better quality of harvest which improves the household nutrition and helps them move from subsistence farming to consumer farming and access to markets. All which consequently allow women to be more proactive in their family and take part in the decision making process when it comes to their wellbeing and their children’s. Our Farmer Field School thus goes beyond the mere provision of on-farm training and advisory services to include delivery of basic literacy, numeracy, and life skills trainings to endow women with the necessary competencies for success in life. Currently we are working on digital and financial inclusion of farmers/other beneficiaries. We have digitized our curricula and are holding zoom meetings to expand our outreach and scale up our programs especially during the challenging COVID 19 times. We adopt the Assets Based Community Development (ABCD) approach in our interventions to mobilize communities and to create ownership at the target communities’ end. Project Overall objectives: 1. To increase the economic viability and sustainability of smallholder female-run farm businesses., and 2. Concerns the creation of a positive environment that is conducive to women’s economic advancement. Theory of change: Our Theory of Change, at Life Vision we believe that our objectives are reached through three simultaneous routes: i. Individual Empowerment (for female farmers). ii. Community mobilization(ABCD approach and capacity building program for local grassroot NGOS/ CSOs). iii. Society sensitization, through partnership with Ministry of Agriculture, seeking their valuable input in providing technical agriculture and water management training to our target group. And creating synergies between public and private entities to develop accessible and inclusive markets to small holding female farmers. We follow the Assets Based Community Development (ABCD) approach which capitalizes on available strengths and opportunities (instead of focusing on the shortages or needs); whether human, financial, natural or material resources - and aims to foster high impact local development initiatives that promote social cohesion and effective synergies between CSOs and Local Actors, thus creating solidarity in societies which ensure the inclusion of vulnerable members. Since CSOs play a valuable complementary role alongside official bodies in ensuring access to social rights for the underprivileged and marginalized, the project brings together relevant actors from government, private sector and civil society at different stages of the program enhancing their contribution to governance and development processes.

    Expected Impact

Female farmers are more resilient to environmental challenges that face their assets through: 1: Women exercise Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) & Agro system analysis on their lands to predict foresee and analyse problems and plan to overcome them. Women Farmers set plans for water & waste management in their plot of land, considering water accounting, and soil conservation, plantation, animal production and welfare, waste management, and waste recycling. 2: Beneficiaries acquire the necessary key life skills which have a direct impact on decreasing levels of domestic violence among family members and among neighbors. 3: Farmer women are literate protecting them from any attempts of fraud on a personal level, and enables them to start their business project and monitor its progress. 4: Female farmers of Upper Egypt are successful entrepreneurs after completion of (The Farmer Business Schools) 5: Local CSO are empowered to build upon the programs and have gained experience through partnering with Lifevison to maintain the sustainability of the outcomes in the village.
