: Development of desert rangeland in Algeria.
The rehabilitation and development of the vegetation cover in rangelands of Arab countries, is one of main strategies of the (ACSAD) due to the importance of this sector; socially, economically and ecologically to the Arab regions. The aim of this is to conserve, preserve and rehabilitate natural range in order to achieve the principle of ecological balance in combating desertification for sustainable development of natural resources.
- Establishing nurseries of important pastoral plants, for propagating and rehabilitating of degraded rangelands. - Raising the capacity of local technical personnel in the field of developing desert rangelands and sustainable management of pastoral resources.
• Preserving the biodiversity of natural range areas in Algeria. • Securing a permanent source of access to the reproductive properties of species tolerant of extreme conditions. • Capacity building for workers in the field of proliferation and conservation of range species and transferring techniques for their conservation, to be used in the development of natural ranges.
- Study the methods and possibilities of developing desert range and increasing their production capacity. - Implementation of applied research experiments in the field cultivation, and Rehabilitation and protection of degraded desert ranges. - Training and building human capacities in the field of sustainable development of desert ranges, and disseminating and transferring techniques for conserving desert ranges and ways to improve them.
1. Establishing a nursery in the Ouargla state with an annual production capacity of 6000 seedlings. 2. Planting of rangeland site in Wadi An- Nasa region – Ouargla state with drought species. 3. Training of technicians on the metrology for preparing the field guide for desert range plants. 4. Devising mathematical model to estimate productivity of a number of range species.
All necessary means to implement the project are available.
The project contributes to developing and improving the income of camel breeders, raising their standard living, and preparing qualified technical personnel to transfer expertise in the field of rehabilitation and conservation of desert rangeland. The project can be implemented and the technical experiences gained can be replicated into other Arab countries.
The pandemic has prevented field monitoring of the project implementation phases. This can be remedied by communicating with the coordinators and project stakeholders through various communication techniques (Video conference, Social media).
