United Arab Emirates (2nd SE4All Forum Commitments)
Description
Overseas commercial investments also increased significantly (see Masdar), while domestically the UAE set a world-record low for solar costs (5.84 cents/kWh) that has resulted in 900 MW of announced tenders and the tripling of Dubai’s renewable energy target to 15% by 2030.
Since 2013, the country has mobilized over $700 million in official development assistance for renewable energy projects and has committed to support five projects in the Pacific, namely in the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, and Solomon Islands, alongside 6 other country agreements as well as new projects in Argentina, Cuba, Iran, Mauritania, and St Vincent and the Grenadines under the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development-IRENA partnership.
Major ongoing energy access projects include Egypt and Morocco.
For this year, the UAE has enacted a ban on incandescent lightbulbs and significant tariff reform, complementing its pioneering and mandatory building and air-conditioning performance standards and introduction of energy service companies.
