Awareness & Action: Peace Conferences, Tree Plantings, Cleanups, & Vegetarianism

    Description
    Description
The practice of Yoga in Daily Life cultivates awareness of the ethical and spiritual principles of sustainability. To protect the planet's wildlife, forests, and water requires the awakening of awareness in human consciousness.

We pledge to organize world peace conferences that will increase awareness and encourage dialogue on topics of peace, ethics, spirituality, education, women/youth, health, and environmental sustainability.

At our centers around the world, where thousands of students practice Yoga in Daily Life and serve their communities, teams of volunteers will plant trees, clean waterways and forests, protect animals, and inspire people to adopt a vegetarian diet.

    Implementation of the Project/Activity

The international NGOs Yoga in Daily Life and the Sri Swami Madhavananda World Peace Council are pleased to make this commitment at the historic Rio+20 conference. Our organizations, founded by H.H. Paramhans Swami Maheshwarananda, have for 25 years worked to protect the environment and support people facing poverty, natural disaster and environmental degradation in their efforts to live sustainably in harmony with Mother Earth. For example, we initiated and supported the Desert Rainwater Harvesting Initiative in the drought-stricken rural area around Jadan, Rajasthan, India, which provides drinking water, irrigation, and reforestation to thousands of people, animals, and crops.

Periodically, a major Yoga in Daily Life center will co-sponsor with the World Peace Council a world peace conference, organizing a venue, expert speakers, an awareness-building program, and publicity.

In addition, at Yoga in Daily Life centers worldwide, organizers will plan environmental projects that include tree plantings and cleanups of waterways and forests. Reports of these activities will be included in the centers' annual reports to the Yoga in Daily Life International Fellowship.
