Launch of the SIDS Centre of Excellence Marks Major Step in Delivering the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS)

New York, UNQH, UNDESA welcome the official launch of the SIDS Centre of Excellence (CoE) and its new online platform, now live at https://sidscentreofexcellence.org/. This milestone represents a significant advancement in the implementation of the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS), the outcome document of the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4).

The Centre of Excellence is a SIDS-driven institutional platform designed to strengthen capacity, enhance evidence-based policymaking, catalyse sustainable investment, promote innovation and technology transfer, and address structural challenges such as debt sustainability. Through its integrated architecture including a Global Data Hub, innovation and technology support, investment facilitation mechanisms, and debt sustainability services, the Centre translates intergovernmental commitments into practical tools and solutions tailored to the unique vulnerabilities and opportunities of SIDS.

The new website provides a dynamic and accessible gateway to the Centre’s work. It clearly outlines its pillars, strategic direction, and partnership opportunities, serving as a practical resource for governments, development partners, financial institutions, civil society, and the private sector. It signals a shift from advocacy to delivery, from commitments to concrete implementation.

As part of our continued support to SIDS and to the implementation of ABAS, the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) has added the SIDS Centre of Excellence link to the Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG) SIDS webpage, ensuring visibility and accessibility within the broader UN system and among global partners.

The launch of the SIDS Centre of Excellence reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that SIDS are equipped not only to navigate global challenges, but to lead with innovation, resilience, and sustainable ambition over the coming decade.
