Background
The United Nations Decade of Sustainable Transport 2026 – 2035 was launched at the UN Headquarters on 10 December. Following the successful preparatory process of the launch and the Implementation Plan of the UN Decade, Member States agreed on a General Assembly resolution in 2025 (A/RES/80/132) that provides further mandates and requests for work on sustainable transport. This workshop, organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and hosted by the World Bank at the Transforming Transportation Forum, will be the first UN Decade event in 2026.
The workshop will provide an opportunity for Member States and all relevant stakeholders to unpack the mandates provided by the General Assembly for the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport and to provide inputs and ideas on how best to lay the groundwork for effective implementation and action in the coming years. The workshop will provide a moment for updates from numerous stakeholders contributing to different streams of UN Decade implementation on their work and existing projects and plans, including on monitoring progress during the UN Decade and on the Sustainable Transport Action Commitments
The event will be held in person and in English only. The workshop aims to encourage an open exchange of ideas with short kick-off presentations and open dialogues. All participants must hold a valid registration for the 2026 Transforming Transportation Forum.
