“Bir Usta Bin Usta" (One Master, Thousand Masters)
Anadolu Anonim Türk Sigorta Şirketi
Taking its name from the land where it was founded and serving with the vision of "Never Lose", Anadolu Sigorta designed a social responsibility project aligned with the corporate strategy and the expectations of the target audiences, in 2010, the year of its 85th establishment. The project was named “Bir Usta Bin Usta" (One Master, Thousand Masters), perfectly corresponding to its scope and content. Since the project targets vanishing crafts, main beneficiaries are the craftsmen, co-operatives and people who are unemployed but wish to become a craftsman; however since these crafts are crucial for the national culture, whole society can be named as a beneficiary.
Before each training period, trainers and training places were visited, and the trainers were selected from among those who were affiliated with the Ministry, who received vocational training for a certain period, trained a certain number of apprentices, and who were qualified in their profession. In the selection of course locations, attention was paid to the selection of course locations where at least 20 people can receive training, close to the center and with easy transportation. During the training period, daily travel and meal allowance was given to the trainees.Within the scope of the project, aim was to train 1000 candidate masters in 50 provinces in 10 years by opening courses of professions that are about to disappear in 5 provinces every year, and provide training for at least 15 to 20 trainees for each profession. The age range of the trainees were between 15-55. There were students, teachers, sculptors, painters, art teachers, animators, researchers, civil servants, housewives, and retirees among the trainees. A certificate of attendance was given to all trainees who successfully completed the course.
50 different vocational courses were opened in 44 provinces in 10 years. A total of 1000 master candidates were trained and they were awarded a course completion certificate approved by the Ministry of National Education. While preventing the disappearance of local professions through the courses, new job opportunities were created for those who attended the courses. Since the project targets vanishing crafts, main beneficiaries are the craftsmen, co-operatives and people who are unemployed but wish to become a craftsman; however since these crafts are crucial for the national culture, whole society can be named as a beneficiary.
In the second year of the project, one of the most important finding from the initial year’s assessment was that the newly graduated masters lacked financial strength for establishing their own businesses thus, they could not continue their profession. To act upon this finding, negotiations with İşBank began and at the end of year long negotiations a special micro-loan agreement targeting the trainees was signed between the company and İşBank. This specialized loan allowed the masters to open their own workshops, start their own businesses and begin contributing to the regional economy.
The project aims to revitalize the about to lost and at-risk local values of Turkey and transfer the experiences of the masters to future generations, 1000 master candidates in 50 professions have been trained in 10 years. The trainees graduated with obtaining the Ministry of Education approved master instructor course completion certificates. Which helped to prevent the disappearance of local professions through the courses and creating new job opportunities for those who attended the courses. Anadolu Sigorta aims to ensure the sustainability of the social impact created through the project and takes action in this regard. Track reports show that after the completion of the project trainees who received education through the project continue their practices as new masters of the crafts. As their initial supporter we are still following up on their needs, their business and we are also helping them grow their business financially by choosing our corporate gifts from their products which also promotes their crafts to all of our business partners around the world.
