STATEMENT BY THE REPRESENTATIVE OF ETHIOPIA, MRS. FOTUNA DIBACO, CLUSTER 5 AT THE 11TH SESSION OF THE OPEN WORKING GROUP ON SDGs, MAY 5-9, 2014
Mr. Co-Chairs,
Thank you for the opportunity to provide our views. We align ourselves to the Africa group statement. Above all, there is one trend – climate change – which will determine whether or not we can deliver on our ambitions to sustainable development and eradication of poverty. Accordingly, on Climate Change, we fully support from the focus area 12 proposed targets b-e. In addition we would like to suggest replacement of a by the following target
Ensure an ambitious and action-oriented commitment to limit the global temperature rise below 2 degrees centigrade by taking together mitigation, adaptation and loss and damage in addressing climate change;
We would like also to highlight 3 targets that we consider are the priorities:
 building resilience and adaptive capacity in all vulnerable countries;
 introducing, inter alia, economic incentives for investments in low-carbon solutions in infrastructure and industry;
 developing low-carbon, climate-resilient development strategies and plans;
 reducing the damage caused by climate-induced and other natural hazards through disaster risk reduction;
 promoting sustainable forest management ,restoring degraded forest ecosystems and increasing area of protected forests ;
 supporting measures to protect mountain ecosystem achieving a land degradation neutral world and
 provide adequate and effective financial resources and technologies for building resilience and adaptive capacity ;
I thank you
